Lëk Sèn - Jaam Dong (Jahsen Creation)

'Jaam Dong' ("only peace", but of course also a reference to "Jamdown" or Jamaica) is Senegalese rapper/singjay Lëk Sèn's third long player in just over a year's time, but if you think that means he's opted for quantity rather than quality, you would be sadly mistaking.

Various Artists - Rolê: New Sounds Of Brazil (Mais Um Discos)

For those among you unable to keep up with the unrelenting stream of Mais Um Discos releases, the label now presents this double album compilation containing just over forty tracks.

Dona Onete - Feitiço Caboclo (Mais Um Discos)

Dona Onete's 'Feitiço Caboclo' ("the spell of the Caboclo", "caboclo" being a Brazilian term used to describe people of mixed native and European descent) is a bit of a strange duck in the Mais Um Discos catalogue.

Anthony Cruz - Inna Di Dance (Shan Shan Music)

Yours truly has a hard time understanding why Anthony Cruz, an artist we rate among the top of the Jamaican music business, can count on such little support in Europe, although the fact in recent years he's been releasing his albums on his own label will undoubtedly have something to do with that.

Söndörgő - Tamburocket: Hungarian Fireworks (Riverboat Records/World Music Network)

Söndörgő is the story of a Hungarian family orchestra consisting of the three brothers Áron, Benjamin and Salamon Eredics and their cousin Dávid Eredics (bassist Attila Buzás is the only non-family member in the band's line-up) specializing in playing the tambura (a stringed instrument related to the Greek bouzouki, found in Bulgaria and Macedonia and occasionally used by Gypsies in Southeast Hungary).

Sonido Gallo Negro - Sendero Mistico (Glitterbeat Records)

Upon hearing the repertoire of Sonido Gallo Negro ("the sound of the black rooster"), an instrumental mix of cumbia sonidera, huayno, boogaloo and chicha (with instruments like the Farfisa organ and the theremin providing a psychedelic touch) you may not immediately think of a Mexican band, but none the less, this is a band from Mexico City, where they've been putting the underground scene aflame since 2011.

Toumani Diabate & Sidiki Diabate - Toumani & Sidiki (World Circuit)

For this album, with the straightforward title 'Toumani & Sidiki', kora grandmaster Toumani Diabate joined forces with his son Sidiki (though the two already worked together previously for 'A Curva Da Cintura', a cooperative project with Brazilian musicians Arnaldo Antunes and Edgard Scandurra).

Charel & Sanguebom - No Rolé Mundão (Do Not Cross/Musicast Distribution)

Still remember Parisian do-it-yourselfer Sanguebom? After having surprised us with 'BlackStarLine' in 2012, he now returns with 'No Rolé Mundão' ("a journey around the world"), a collaborative project with Charel Perêrê aka Charel Angola, a musician, singer and capoeira master from Bahia.

Long Joha' meets RockRadioHermes - Demi-Lune EP (RockRadioHermes)

The 'Demi-Lune' EP is the first fruit of a collaboration between Long Joha' Pellaz, a Swiss singer who already earned his spurs with Genevan band Herbalist Crew, and Yannis 'RockRadioHermes' Sauty, a musician and producer from Annecy in France, intended as taster for 'O'Lune ', a full album to follow later this year.

Muyei Power - Sierra Leone In 1970s USA (Soundway Records)

Muyei Power ("the power of our nation") or Orchestre Muyei, a popular band from 1970s Sierra Leone, was the brainchild of Abou Bakarr Whyte.

Noura Mint Seymali - Tzenni (Glitterbeat Records)

Aziza Brahim's 'Soutak', the previous release on the Glitterbeat Records label, already took us to the Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic and for Noura Mint Seymali's 'Tzenni' we remain in the Sahara region.

Kasai Allstars - Beware The Fetish (Crammed Discs)

Six years after the release of their debut album 'In The 7th Moon, The Chief Turned Into A Swimming Fish And Ate The Head Of His Enemy By Magic' Kasai Allstars finally came up with a successor.

Various Artists - Brasslands: A Motion Picture Soundtrack (Evergreene Music)

In 2006 Dušan Milić already presented 'Guča' (aka 'Gucha - Distant Trumpet') a romantic comedy with Marko Markovic in the lead role and featuring the Guča Trumpet Festival, but with 'Brasslands' there is now finally a full-fledged documentary about the Serbian brass band festival.

Various Artists - The Sound Of Siam Volume 2: Molam & Luk Thung From North-East Thailand 1970 - 1982 (Soundway Records)

For those who couldn't get enough of the Thai molam and luk thung on 'The Sound Of Siam: Leftfield Luk Thung, Jazz & Molam In Thailand, 1964 - 1975', Soundway Records now presents its successor 'The Sound Of Siam Volume 2: Molam & Luk Thung From North-East Thailand 1970 - 1982'.

DJ Vadim - Dubcatcher (Barely Breaking Even)

Reggae superhero Major Lazer gets the company of a colleague in the form of Dubcatcher, a creation of DJ Vadim (born in Saint Petersburg, Russia but these days active in London, Berlin and New York) and the title of a reggae-inspired album that is the first part of a diptych (the second album, 'Soulcatcher', will focus on soul music).

Junior Cony & Shanti D - The End (Hammerbass)

Jean-Michel Rossignol aka Junior Cony and Shanti D, first joined forces back in 1999, then still as a trio with Mister Irie as the third member.

Dubheart - Mental Slavery + Dubheart meets Fullness - Mental Slavery Dub (Karnatone Records)

Even though Dubheart hail from Bournemouth in the south of England, oddly enough they sound as if they were a French band, something that is mostly down to their Parisian lead-vocalist Tenja (born Steven Regis), who belatedly joined the band in 2008.

Randy Valentine - Break The Chain EP (J. O. A. T/Hemp Higher Productions)

In 2012 Randy Valentine (born in Clarendon, Jamaica, but these days based in London) enthused the reggae community with his 'Bring Back The Love' mixtape, and now he's finally presenting his official debut EP 'Break The Chain', once again produced by Swiss Hemp Higher Productions and London based J.

Hezron - The Live I Live(d) (Tad's Record)

When listening to this double, twenty-six track debut effort by Hezron, we were taken by the question: "How is it possible that we have never heard of this talented singer from Saint James before?" The fact Hezron resided in the United States for several years and, in the beginning of his career, focused mainly on r&b, will probably have something to do with that, but in any case, with 'The Life I Live(d)' he presents us with one of the surprises of 2014.

Nicodrum & Friends - Back To Fundehchan (Tam Tam Production/Socadisc)

Nicodrum (born Nicolas Belouet), is a French percussionist from the vicinity of Paris, who, in recent years, focused his attention on the repeater (or keteh) and Jamaican nyahbinghi and burru rhythms in particular; something for which he consulted grandmaster Noel 'Skully' Simms.
