Söndörgő is the story of a Hungarian family orchestra consisting of the three brothers Áron, Benjamin and Salamon Eredics and their cousin Dávid Eredics (bassist Attila Buzás is the only non-family member in the band's line-up) specializing in playing the tambura (a stringed instrument related to the Greek bouzouki, found in Bulgaria and Macedonia and occasionally used by Gypsies in Southeast Hungary). For songs like 'Hulusi' or 'Hulusination' on the other hand, it's the hulusi, a Chinese aerophone, taking up the central role. For their songs Söndörgő draw inspiration from the work of the famous Hungarian composer Béla Bartok (Hungarian composer and pianist, widely regarded as one of the most important composers of the twentieth century. Bartok also gained notoriety because of his meticulous transcriptions of Eastern European folk music, done in cooperation with Zoltán Kodály and making him one of the founders of ethnomusicology.) and that of the Hungarian ethnographer Vujicsics Tihamér. Impressive piece of folk music at no time sounding old fashioned or dated. Hungarian folk music for the 21st century!
