'Trippin'' is the debut effort by Laurent Mercier aka Wyman Low, a singer/guitarist from Bordeaux who earned his stripes as a guitarist and backing vocalist for Max Romeo and a band member of Brazilian band Cristal Reggae and Guinean reggae band Seyni & Yeliba. The influences from those formative years, Wyman Low also processed on 'Trippin'': in 'Afreekans' a kalimba (thumb piano) and kamale ngoni can be heard and for 'Que Beleza', a cover of the eponymous song by Brazilian soul-man Tim Maia, he suddenly switches to Portuguese. 'Que Beleza' is not the only cover on 'Trippin'' either, as Wyman Low also recorded an excellent version of the Peter Tosh classic 'No Sympathy'. Even though we found little fault with the rest of the tracks on 'Trippin'', with the exception of the spirited 'Holy Reggae', they didn't exactly blow us of our socks either. 'Trippin'' appears on The Banyans' Khanti Records label.
