Compared to the influx of European productions, the situation in Jamaica remains pretty quiet where dub releases are concerned. With this 'Tads Hi-Power Dub', the Tad's Record label is now trying to change that. Dub-engineer on duty is Gregory Morris, mentioned on the cover, who started his career in 2004 as a sound engineer with Tuff Gong and has since worked closely with Stephen and Damian Marley. Morris is also a good friend of Tad Dawkins Jr. (son of label owner Tad Dawkins) with whom he shares a recording studio. Tad Jr. had given Gregory some old tapes to transfer to Pro Tools and Morris soon decided to play with the recordings and conjured up some dub mixes from his computer. When Dawkins Jr. heard one of these mixes one day, he was so impressed he immediately suggested Gregory to use the mixes for an album project. Some extra tracks were pulled from the archive of father Tad Sr. and the end result is 'Tads Hi-Power Dub' featuring 10 excellent dubs of classics like Dennis Brown's 'Love And Hate' (opener 'Red Dub'), Lloyd Robinson's 'Cuss Cuss' ('Road Dub' and closing track 'Refix Cuss Cuss') or Johnny Osbourne's 'Budy Bye' ('Sleng Teng Refix'), but also more recent work like Richie Spice's 'We Need Love' ('Spice Dub'). Jamaica still dubs it!
