'Ladies First' is the first release in the Special Blend series conceived by French producer duo Bost & Bim. As the title suggests, this first EP focusses on the female voice and for the vocal interpretations Bost & Bim invited a slew of singers from around the world. The EP opens with 'Love', a reggae version of the eponymous song by Rosey (born Nancy Kaye Hill and based in Atlanta, Georgia) from her 'Luckiest Girl' album. Brisa Roché, providing vocals on 'Sweat King' (a remix of the same song from her 'All Right Now' album) may sound slightly British, she actually hails from Arcata, California, but has been living and working in Paris for a while now. Ellen Birath, on 'Ladies First' performing the magnificent 'Samples To Stars', also lives and works in Paris, but is actually of Swedish origin. The voice of Mozella (born Maureen Anne McDonald in Detroit, Michigan) in 'Tiny Little Oranges', immediately reminded yours truly of that of Jaqee, so it should come as no surprise that the Swedish-Ugandan also pops up in the track list of 'Ladies First' ('Intangled Situation'). Also striking the right key was 'No Way' in which the somewhat husky voice of Mariama, a singer of German-Sierra Leonese descent caught our attention. In addition to the six vocal tracks on this EP another six dubs and remixes, including one by dubstep producer Left Lane aka Marc 'Animalsons' Jouanneaux, were added. We've truly enjoyed Bost & Bim's first Special Blend and hope you'll do the same.
