Yours truly is certainly not averse to a dash of corny lovers rock now and again, but the honeyed verses Terry Linen produces on some of the songs of the Lloyd and Michelle Campbell produced 'Welcome To My World', are a bridge too far (opener 'As If I Didn’t Know', 'Have To Get To Know You', 'Your Body Is Here' and absolute stinker 'Porfavor'). It's not all doom and gloom though: 'I Can't Change' is a sound lovers rock tune and 'You Look Like Love', for which Linen used the classic You Don't Care riddim, also tickled our fancy. Terry also revisits 'Venus', an evergreen originally sung by Frankie Avalon; not bad, but we feel the song could have gotten a bit more of a reggae-makeover as it stays quite close to the original in Linen's version. In fact, 'Welcome To My World' is nothing more than the Jamaican equivalent of a Flemish schlager album. This kind of album will certainly have its audience, but our cup of tea it is not.
