After 2012's semi-acoustic 'Mecoustic', Tarrus Riley now searched Treasure Isle's rich archives to go rocksteady for 'Love Situation'. Fans of well-known riddims from the glory days of the rocksteady era will enjoy classics like The Gaylads' 'ABC Rocksteady' ('1 2 3 I Love You'), Alton Ellis' 'Big Bad Boy' ('Speechless'), The Melodians' 'I Will Get Along Without You' ('Cry No More') or John Holt's 'Strange Things' ('Come Get Your Ish'). Although Tarrus collaborated with a slew of producers (Shane C. Brown, Mitchum Khan Chin, Jordan McClure...) for this album, the whole project was once again supervised by Dean Fraser. And it has to be said, Riley's voice never sounded more in place than on this album; not surprising given the rocksteady era produced some of the best voices Jamaica has ever known. The fact U Roy and Big Youth are the main guests on 'Love Situation' might seem somewhat strange, but bear in mind that the first was almost single-handedly responsible for a revival of the Treasure Isle sound in the first half of the 1970s and big Youth also had his share of hits over Treasure Isle riddims.
