Sunny After Moon is an up-and-coming band from Louvain mixing reggae, ska, gypsy music (see 'Balkan Booby'), funk and even a hint of disco ('Discorientation') into a festive and danceable blend. The story of this eight-piece begins in 2011 with a chance meeting between Bart Van Hemel and Hans de Roey, resulting in the duo starting to jam together, having fun with covers of, among others, Pink Floyd, Bob Marley and Manu Chao (see again 'Balkan Booby', a gypsy version of Chao's 'Mr. Bobby'). Vocalist Yorick Musschoot soon joined their ranks and as Sunny Afternoon, the trio became mainstays in Louvain nightlife. Over the years, the band continued to expand: a number of musicians switched instruments and the musical focus changed to self-penned songs and material. Finally the band members also opted for a new name: Sunny After Moon. With 'The Mental Mess', Sunny After Moon now presents an 11 track album, and even though the track list mainly contains English language songs, it were still mostly Dutch 'Levensgenieter' ("epicurean"), a Doe Maar-esque reggae song, and 'Petit Agneau' ("little lamb"), starting out as an acoustic singer-songwriter track, then briefly hinting at rock, and finally ending in ska and reggae, for which Sunny After Moon switches to French, which caught our attention.
