With 'La Différence', the successor to 2002's 'Moffou' and 2005's 'M'Bemba', Salif Keita completes his acoustic trilogy for Universal. With the title of the album and its title track Salif underlines being albino is different, but 'La Différence' is also about the difference you can make as an individual (for example on environmental issues, something he talks about in 'San Ka Na' - about the heavily polluted and ever more desiccating Niger River, the lifeblood of Mali - and 'Ekolo D'Amour' - about the ecological disasters afflicting Africa). In that last song, recorded in Beirut, you will hear Ibrahim Maalouf's trumpet, and balafon player Keletigui Diabate and cellist Vincent Segal also make an appearance. 'La Différence' is classic Salif Keita and that might be partly due to the fact the bard rerecorded some of his older songs for this album ('Folon', 'Papa', 'Seydou'...).
