The fact multi-instrumentalist/DJ/MC/producer Saimn-I returns here with the successor to 'More To The Picture Than Meets The Eye', his 2013 long player debut, leaves little doubt, because the titles of both albums are very similar to one another. Once again Saimn-I serves the mix of hip-hop, dubstep, trip-hop and reggae we already got to hear on 'More To The Picture Than Meets The Eye'. For 'Simón', Saimn-I used a sample from 'Half Past Dead', a 2002 action movie starring Steven Seagal, making the term "simón" (Mexican slang for "yes" or "sure") sound like his own first name. Although yours truly is far from an expert in the genre, the hip-hop tracks on 'More To The Universe Than Meets The Mind' are arguably world class quality (be sure to check 'Incomplete Dreams' featuring Saragamuffin and Zulu Moon or 'Who Are We' featuring American rapper IAMISEE), but being the reggae aficionados we are, we were, of course, looking forward most to the more Jamaican sounding tracks in the track list. We already came close with 'Easy Does It', a hip-hop meets dubstep track for which Saimn-I invited Bruges rapper Ozi One and Barbarossa, a hip-hop veteran from Roeselare (the latter also making an appearance in 'Jedi'). 'Can't Turn Me Off', for which Saimn-I remixed Silver Convention's 'You've Turned Me On', is without a doubt one of the most infectious tracks on the album and interlude 'Intergalactix' boasts both a sample from Max Romeo's 'I Chase The Devil' and Dave & Ansel Collins' 'Double Barrel', but for actual reggae we had to turn to 'Taurus Connexion' (an excellent ode to the star sign Taurus, a link connecting Saimn-I, Iron Ites front-woman Benoitte Kiangana Mupatshi and Collieman, aka The Taurus Connexion) and 'Rebel Vibes'. Versatile yet coherent album on an international level by a Belgian devil-does-all!
