Ryon is a five piece band from the South West of France with a member base from Bergerac in the Dordogne and Pau in the department Pyrénées-Atlantiques. After the load of English-language albums that reached us from France last year, it was almost a relief to find out Ryon wholeheartedly opted for the language of Molière on 'Rêver'. We already mentioned some of the band members of Ryon hail from the department of Pyrénées-Atlantiques and this immediately explains why opener 'La Haut' is a tribute to the Pyrenees. Amateurs of intelligent, socio-critical lyrics will certainly find what they're looking for with this band, illustrated by songs like 'Hors La Loi' (an indictment against the 1% super rich who continue to act without the slightest scruples and again and again escape with impunity), 'One' (unity is strength) and title song 'Rêver' (in a society constantly trying to impose more rules and regulations, only our dreams remain). Lyrically a bit of an odd one out is 'Mon Bon Droit', in which Cam sings: "Je ne suis pas Rasta, je ne connais pas Jah Jah, je ne fais non plus l’apologie de la ganja et quand bien même aurais-je fait le choix de prier le roi des rois, ne serais-je pas dans mon bon droit?". A special mention finally has to go to keyboardist Bouyax, whose contributions definitely give the songs on 'Rêver' more depth. In the wide range of French bands Ryon is absolutely one to keep an eye on. Excellent debut effort!
