Just like New Kingston from New York, London based band Royal Sounds is also a family project consisting of brothers Ajani Mckenzie (bass/keys) and Gyasi Crosdale (guitar) and their cousin Hannibal (vocals), supplemented with Ras Sempah (vocals). Ajani and Gyasi basically got spoon-fed reggae from when they were born, as their father, Ras Alkebu, was lead guitarist with Prince Lincoln Thompson & The Royal Rasses. From a musical point of view one could consider Royal Sounds to be the British answer to Jamaican bands like EarthKry, Raging Fyah or Pentateuch. Not all tracks on 'Burning Inspiration' could convince, but recommendations include 'Natty In London', for which the members of Royal Sounds captured their experiences as dreads in the English capital, 'Departure', about the fact that being Rasta means having to make certain life choices, 'Message Music', about the importance of content in music and a statement against slackness, and 'Pied Piper', an indictment of the many false prophets who currently dominate the world. 'Burning Inspiration' doesn't manage to convince all the way through, but nonetheless Royal Sounds is a young band to keep an eye on!
