We've lost count on how many debut EP's Roots Musician Records producer E.N. Young has been worked on to date, but, in any case, introducing the world to new American reggae talent seems to have become one of his musical missions. This time it's Rootikal Yard's turn, a band from Ontario, a small town about 50 kilometers east of Los Angeles. On this 'Jah Vibration' EP the five-piece band around brothers Diego (guitar) and Jesus 'Jay' Juarez (drums) opts for a mix of conscious lyrics inspired by Rastafari and two love tunes ('Tell Me Love', 'Owe My World') over that typical Cali-sound which should sound familiar by now. Here and there their lyrics also contain some Spanish (see also the cover illustration of the EP, a clear reference to the band members' Mexican roots), which distinguishes Rootikal Yard from similar West Coast reggae bands. As usual, E.N. Young concludes with two excellent dub cuts.
