When music critics mention Raul Paz, the description "pioneer of the new Cuban wave" (a group of young Cuban musicians who washed ashore in Paris in the 1990s) is often used. Yours truly got to know the man and his music a few years back, when Paz played the Couleur Café festival and prefers to stick to describing his music as: the better Spanish-spoken pop music, spiced up with influences from hip-hop, rock and groove. 'Havanization' is the logical sequel to Paz' previous releases on the Naïve label 'Mulata' and 'Revolucion'.
