Like many a reggae musician Ras Lil Dread, starting his career in music as a bass player for Californian band Three The Hard Way (later renamed Ras Dashan), also started dreading up at one point, but that being said, Antone R. Chatton's stage name is meant as a tribute to his mentor, Mikey Dread, with whom he worked as a road manager and bass player for many years. In 2009 Dread moved to Hawaii where he became a member of local band Keys Of Creation. And now there's 'Born Free', a solo effort that ranks as a nice inbetweener. Tracks that definitely deserve attention are 'It's Official', for which Dread used excerpts shreds from the speech Haile Selassie I delivered at the United Nations on October 6, 1963, title track 'Born Free' and closing track 'Fayah Blaze', versions over the Indo and Seasons riddims.
