Together with Philippe Thuriot (accordion), Lode Vercampt (cello), François Taillefer (percussion) and Helena Schoeters (vocals), Iraqi qanûn-master (the qanûn is a type of large zither with a thin trapezoidal soundboard and stems from the Middle-East) Osama Abdulrasol Abdulrasol formed the Osama Abdulrasol Quintet. On 'Jedid' ("new"), the quintet presents a dialogue between East and West, in the twilight zone where occidental and oriental classical music meet and complement each other. The result is an album in which the listener is hurled back and forth between the mysterious world of thousand and one nights, a French caf'conç (opener 'Ghazal', 'Stairway/Sullem') and a classical opera ('Camel Walk').
