Nilza Costa is a Brazilian from Ondina near Salvador, Bahia, who'se been living in the Italian city of Bologna since 2006. In her music she reconciles jazz, soul, blues and reggae with influences from Brazilian samba, candomblé, cantigas de roda (children's songs) and maculelê, with Africa never being far away. For each track on 'Revolution, Rivoluzione, Revolução', Costa's debut effort, the Brazilian singer seems to have found the perfect balance between melody, voice and percussion, pulling her audience back and forth between a jazz club and a candomblé ceremony. Absolute discovery!
