Compared to his previous effort, the 2013 'Songs About You' EP, for 'Revelation Time' Million Stylez, the Swedish singjay with Japanese-French roots, seems to have opted for a slightly different direction. As the cover photo featuring a lion and Star of David suggests, for this long player Stylez goes down the conscious path. 'Revelation Time' appears on Mr Williamz' Undisputed Records label, so the man himself could of course not be missing from the track list and makes an appearance in the excellent 'Can't Stop The Youths', a song over a riddim in which we thought to recognize hints from Gregory Isaacs' 'Rumours'. The guest list of 'Revelation Time' still features a few other names which you'll certainly recognize. With Lutan Fyah, Stylez recorded title track 'Revelation Time' (over Dub Akom's Way Back riddim) and for 'Equal Rights & Justice' he could even convince Bounty Killer, but we were most taken with 'Never Conquer I', a duet with Peetah Morgan that could just as easily have been on Morgan Heritage most recent album. For 'Where's My Wife', a song that along with 'Waiting' is most reminiscent of the tracks on his 'Songs About You' EP, Stylez used the Heart & Soul riddim yours truly still remembered from Iba MaHr's 'Burning' and Hezron's 'Can't Come Between'. Not all riddims on 'Revelation Time' sound equally convincing and because of the use of auto tune Stylez's voice occasionally sounds a tad too slick, but the track list contains enough decent songs to forgive him these minor flaws. Above average inbetweener!
