In the past few years, the Pressure Sounds label has presented us with quite a few Lee Perry compilations and they sadly weren't all up to scratch (pardon the pun). Luckily, the songs on 'Lee Perry & His Upsetters present Roaring Lion' all date from the short glory period of the Black Ark studio in the mid-1970s. Just about all the tracks on this compilation were recovered from one master tape and are a collection of alternate takes, rarities ('Generation From Creation' and 'Truths And Rights', both deejay versions by Jah Lion aka Jah Lloyd over 'Backbiting' and 'Africa' by Winston Heywood & The Hombres, The Fantels' 'Stand & Look'), dub versions ('Emotional Dub', a version of Junior Murvin's 'False Teachin'') and dubplates. When the lion roar the weak heart tremble (from 'Roaring Lion')!
