If you're among the lucky ones who were able to spot a dromedary in the center of Brussels recently, then you've already had a taste of the promo campaign for 'Tikounen', Kel Assouf's new album. For this new long player, the band around Niger-born Tuareg Anana Harouna, applied a number of changes. Gone are the afrobeat and reggae influences from 'Tin Hanane' and instead we get a solid dose of rock guitars, a sound that's at least in part the work of Tunisian producer Sofyann Ben Youssef. New to the lineup of the band is Toulou Kiki, whom some of you may already know from her acting role in 'Timbuktu' (Abderrahmane Sissako, 2014). Translated from Tamasheq 'Tikounen' means something like "surprise" or "bewilderment", describing Anana's state of mind when confronted with current events on the world stage.
