Keishera James was born in Kingston, but grew up in Brooklyn, New York. James began her professional career as a model, but once the music virus hits you it's hard to shed and a number of serendipitous encounters with Atlantic Records mogul Ahmet Ertegun, singer Pati Labelle, and writer Maya Angelou, convinced Keishera to embrace her real passion. Earlier this year she already presented the 6 track 'Body Language' EP, now followed by this full-fledged 'It's Me Keishera' album. Stylistically, Keishera, who alternates between reggae, r&b and soul, can best be compared to Jamaican contemporaries like Etana or Sevana. Focusing our attention on the reggae-influenced tracks on the album, 'Let Me Love You' is a more then successful lovers rock ballad, and the same goes for 'I'm Ready Now' and 'What We Gonna Do'. Not a lovers tune, but a song of praise to the almighty is 'Beautiful Mind', 'Pull Over' is a lovely breakup song over a rocksteady riddim, and for 'Mad About Me', reminding us of Diana King's glory days, Keishera even goes dancehall-light. Nice discovery!
