Far Out Recordings will now also be reissuing the back catalog of Roberto Quartin's Quartin label, starting with 'Obnoxious', a forgotten gem from Brazilian music history by José Mauro. Relatively little is known about Mauro. Some sources say he died in a car accident just before the release of 'Obnoxious', but others claim that he was kidnapped by the Brazilian Army for being too critical about/on the country's dictatorial regime in his music (see, for example, 'Apocalipse'). In any case, José has left us with a small (later this year Far Out Recordings will also be reissuing 'A Viagem Des Horas') but impressive body of work. On 'Obnoxious' he created his own personal universe where Latin jazz, samba/bossa nova, psychedelic folk and even country ('Arraila Da Lua Cheia') seamlessly blend together. Delicious blast from the past!
