In recent decades several solid Johnny Clarke compilations have seen the light - there was 1991's 'Authorised Rockers' in Virgin's Front Line series, 1998's 'Dreader Dread' on Blood & Fire and 2002's 'A Ruffer Version - Johnny Clarke At King Tubby's 1974-78' on Trojan Records - but with 'Creation Rebel', 17 North Parade/VP Records now bundles 30 of the man's best tracks on two discs or LP's. During his career Clarke produced so many hits 17 North Parade/VP Records doesn't hesitate to put him up there with reggae royalty like Bob Marley and Dennis Brown. For this double compilation album, the label drew from all three aforementioned compilations - feel free to rediscover and enjoy gems like 'Dread A Dread', 'Blood Dunza', 'African People', 'African Roots' or 'None Shall Escape The Judgement' - and added songs like 'Jah Love Is With I', 'Bad Days Are Going', the excellent 'Jah Jah We Are Waiting' or 'Cold I Up', which weren't included on the previous collections. Add to that the extensive 7-page liner notes by Harry Wise, and you end up with the ultimate Johnny Clarke anthology (although you'll still have to look elsewhere for his Ariwa work)!
