On 'Conscious Love', his second long player, Dutch-Surinamese reggae artist Joggo delivers exactly what the album title promises: a mix of conscious roots tracks ('Come Down', 'Revolution Warriors', 'Rasta Deh Pan The Rise'...) and lovers tunes ('Sugar Love', 'When Things Go Wrong', 'Private Performer'...). Songs from the track list that drew our attention included 'The Change', a duet with Chantelle Ernandez thanks to the eponymous riddim clearly carrying the stamp of the Catalan Reggaeland Records label, 'All Around The World', not a cover, but rather a revamp of the song Lisa Stansfield scored a worldwide hit with in 1989, and 'Take It Slow', a tune that was used for 'Snelheidsweter', a campaign by the Dutch Government to promote road safety. In songs like 'Jah Almighty' and 'The Change', Joggo pays respect to the king of reggae, by introducing excerpts from Bob Marley's songs in his lyrics (in this case 'Crazy Baldheads' and 'One Drop'). More than solid album by an artist who clearly continues to evolve.
