Jaro Milko, a musician of Czech descent who grew up in Basel, Switzerland, began his musical career in the Balkan-scene among other things as a member of Swiss band Prekmurski Kavbojci. A trip to Cuba made Milko fall in love with the sound of son and when several years later, during a tour with Firewater, he was handed a cumbia-compilation, the last piece of the puzzle also fell into place. Cumbia, son, a hint of surf, influences from the Balkans and Greece (and even a Belgian link with the solid cover of Vaya Con Dios' 'Nah Neh Nah' closing the album)... Jaro Milko & The Cubalkanics sound like the house band of a smoky Mexican pub in a film by Quentin Tarantino or Robert Rodriguez which is entirely our cup of tequila!
