Reggae do Brazil? Oh well, why not, it doesn't always have to be samba or bossa nova. Jamaica Groove is a six-piece band from Tubarão in the South of Brazil. Their self-produced debut album 'Mãe Terra' is pure roots reggae, but with a Brazilian soul. Lead-vocalist Frank Medeiros sings in Portuguese and instruments like the berimbau and the cavaquinho ensure a local touch (even though the most prominent instrument on the album is still Nido's concert flute). As it befits a roots reggae band, Jamaica Groove is committed to the environment as for the packaging of 'Mãe Terra' only recycled materials were used.
