The world music genre continues to generate new hybrids and from London comes us this time into the Soviet Union Ibibio Sound Machine, a project around British-Nigerian singer Eno Williams. The name of the project, including Konkoma's Max Grunhard and Alfred 'Kari' Bannerman, refers to Ibibio, a dialect from South-East Nigeria, the language in which Eno's mother told her numerous folk tales as a child. These same folk tales also form the basis for most of Williams' lyrics. From a musical point of view Ibibio Sound Machine serves up a highly intriguing mix of electro, post punk, psychedelia, soul and West African highlife.
