The debut of Brussels based band I-Fam, short for One Big Irie Family, is highly reminiscent of the output of French band Trio. I-Fam brings a mixture of (often acoustic) reggae, hip-hop, blues, jazz and African influences. The band is clearly full of good intentions, but 'Du Nouveau Sang' unfortunately suffers a number of teething problems: the sound is often rather one-dimensional (something more Belgian reggae productions suffer from), and vocally most of their songs, which content-wise are absolutely up to scratch, sound too lighthearted. Also it wasn’t really a good to print the important lyrics in the liner notes in an almost unreadable italic font. Yours truly, wishes I-Fam a bright future - we welcome each new addition to the Belgian reggae scene - but they still have a thing or two to learn!
