Like LMK the members of Feuilles de Roots also hail from Annecy in the Haute-Savoie. The nine-piece band was founded in the summer of 2007 and now presents this 6 track debut EP. You can read the title as three separate music notes, but phonetically it also reads "la famille" (the family), referring to the close-knit group of friends the band members are. On 'La Fa Mi' Feuilles de Roots nicely sticks to French with solid opener 'La Yaute En Action' sounds like the band's credo. The number 74 to which they refer in the song is the numeric code for the department of Haute-Savoie and the mere fact that the band openly disapproves of anti-gay behavior in 'La Yaute En Action', makes this track somewhat unique in reggae-land. That being said, musically speaking yours truly was more taken with the more subdued 'Désarmé', ending in a wonderful jazzy piano solo. In contrast, Feuilles de Roots added closing track 'Bad Guy', in which they even go dancehall. Another French band to keep an eye on!
