Yours truly got to know Bournemouth-based British band Dubheart about four years ago with the release of their 'Mental Slavery' EP and dub counterpart 'Mental Slavery Dub'. For this 'Cool Under Pressure' album, the five piece band opted for the showcase format, with 7 vocal cuts each time followed by a dub version. As was already the case with 'Mental Slavery', on 'Cool Under Pressure' it are once again the dubs, the work of drummer Fullness, which outdo the original vocal cuts. Add Brassica Horns, the horn section of Chainska Brassika, to the equation, and you end up with an excellent roots album. We still heard the slight French accent of front man Steven Regis aka Tenja, but it's by no means overbearing. Top tracks: 'Can't Wait', 'Rise Up', and the extended mix of title track 'Cool Under Pressure' featuring a delicious psychedelic organ outro by Dave Mountjoy aka Daddy U, but, as already mentioned, it are the excellent dubs that will really draw your attention!
