The fact a concert by mestizo-sensation Bongo Botrako has little in common with their studio recordings, the Tarragona-based band proves with 'Punk Parranda' ("parranda" is Spanish for party), a live recording of a concert at the Viña Rock festival in Villarrobledo in May of 2014. The resulting CD/DVD combo breads pure energy including an update of 'Volare', the evergreen originally recorded by Domenico Modugno. Their performance at Viña Rock must have been somewhat of a home game for Bongo Botrako, a fact nicely underlined by the massive participation of the enthusiastic audience who apparently knew the bands entire body of work by hard. The 18 tracks on this live album provide a nice overview of Bongo Botrako's catalogue and their set ends fittingly with 'Revoltosa', title track of their 2012 album of the same name.

If you're in the mood for even more mestizo, there's 'Corazon, Bombo Y Son', the debut effort by La Sra. Tomasa. That being said, their mix of salsa, cumbia, timba, guaguanco (and a few more Latin American genres) with reggae ('Dentro De Ti' featuring Marta Trujillo), hip-hop, drum & bass ('A Fuego Y Sangre'), dubstep ('Se Acaba El Tiempo') and even a dash of techno, should rather be considered mestizo 2.0, or as they've baptized it themselves: electro-mestizo. The resulting album is a highly contagious disc putting this seven-piece band on the European mestizo map. Recommended festival-material!
