After 2009's 'Movin' On', 2013's 'The Taxi Sessions', and the four-track 'Heart Mind & Soul' EP from 2015, Bitty McLean joined forces with riddim tandem Sly & Robbie and their Taxi Gang (Mikey Chung and Dougie Bryan - guitar, Robbie Lyn and Lenky Marsden - keyboards, Guillaume 'Stepper' Briard - horns and Uziah 'Sticky' Thompson - percussion) for the fourth time in a row. But while on previous releases highlighted his talents as a lovers rock crooner, 'Love Restart' actually features quite a number of conscious tunes. 'Love Restart' still opens with 'Take My Heart', an excellent lovers tune, and for 'I've Found Someone' Bitty even seems a wink at the early years of his career, but with 'Babylon Has Fallen' we get a first strong conscious track and in 'Open Eyes (Crisis)' Mclean shares his opinions on the worldwide refugee crisis: "It's like all for one and none for all, the week stay week, the strong stay strong, is that right? Seems wo wrong"... goose bumps! And in 'Is That Your Reward', a song with a long dubby outro about the lasting consequences of slavery, McLean also hits the nail on the head. With breakup tune 'Broke My Heart' we go lovers again, but 'Every Word And Move' is pure roots, once again praising the Most High, and 'War Is Over', with Sly & Robbie's signature syncopated sound, and 'My Call' are also in the same vein. But with closing track 'Made To Fall In Love', Bitty goes all out inna sweet lovers rock style one last time. Another McLean gem to enjoy from beginning to end and play to death. Topper!
