Barcelona Gipsy Klezmer Orchestra is dead; long live Barcelona Gipsy Balkan Orchestra! Not that there's that makes of a difference: apart from clarinet player Robindro Nikolic, the line-up of the band has remained unchanged, even though for 'Del Ebro Al Danubio' the remaining band members could also count on the musical support of David Pastor (trumpet), Yannis Papaioanou (oud), Dani Carbonell (clarinet) and Ivan Ilic (guitar). As the title suggests, on 'Del Ebro Al Danubio' ("from the Ebro to the Danube") Barcelona Gipsy Balkan Orchestra still explores all possible forms of Eastern European music, but on this album influences from the Catalan ('Pau', title track 'Od Ebra Do Danuva', the Serbian translation of the album title) and Arabo-Andalusian (closing track 'Bint Al Shalabiya') music tradition can be heard as well. For the visual side of things, the band joined forces with animation producer Jordan T. Caylor and illustrator and designer Raúl Lucas, who for the aforementioned title track developed a steampunk-like animated video in which the story of the band and the music that fascinates them so much is beautifully summarized.
