Yours truly got to know Aziza Brahim, residing in Spain but born in the Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic, thanks to her 2012 album 'Mabruk'. For 'Soutak' ("your voice"), the Sahrawi singer joined forces with Glitterbeat Records, the label that already proved how to produce a decent desert album with Tamikrest. 'Soutak' is a wonderful understated semi acoustic album, centered around the rhythm of the tabal, a traditional drum from Western Sahara, and focussing on the injustices done to the Sahrawi people. Brahim confirms her status as Crown Princess of Sahrawi music.
