"Until the color of a man's skin is of no more significance than the color of his eyes..." Bob Marley sang many years ago and why then could a reggae singer not be white and blonde? Adele Harley hails from Leeds in Northern England and her debut album, 'Come Into My Life' is right on the mark. That this is not the umpteenth pop-meets-reggae project, is evident from the fact that Adele collaborated with veteran London riddim tandem Mafia & Fluxy, resulting in a lovers rock album yours truly hasn't heard the likes of since the heyday of the ARIWA label. A number of classic riddims also pop up on 'Come Into My Life' and from a lovers rock perspective these aren't always the most obvious ones: 'Flying Away' is a nice version on the Satta riddim, 'Live Good' is a lovers rock rendition of the Burning Spear classic of the same title and 'Love Has Faded' is a version on Culture's 'Garvey'. The instrumentation on 'Come Into My Life' could have been a bit more extensive in places (the keyboard sound on 'Memory' is downright irritating), but this album is still one of the strongest reggae releases of 2010. Impressive!
