Since 2016, the legendary Jamaican Studio One label joined forces with American Yep Roc Records, and this already resulted in re-releases of records by The Wailers, Freddie McGregor and Freddie McKay, now followed by the iconic 'Ska Authentic'. On this 1964 debut album, now re-released on vinyl and even appearing on CD for the very first time, The Skatalites (or Ska-Talites, as it was still written back then), who were then still mainly considered as a backing and session band, got vocal support from Jamaican greats like The Maytals ('Heaven Declare'), The Gaylads ('Brown Skin Gal'), a young Lee Perry ('Mother In Law'), and meanwhile forgotten artists like Andy and Joey. Instrumental classics like 'Freedom Sounds' (Tommy McCook) or 'Lee Harvey Oswald' (Ronald Alphonso) can be heard here in their roughest and purest form. Studio One ska classic!
