Just a few weeks after the release of 'Afrocubism' we're again presented with a project in which the musical worlds of Cuba and Mali meet. For 'Mali Latino' keyboardist Alex Wilson and his African companions Madou Sidiki Diabaté (kora) and Ahmed Fofana (balafon) had to make do it with fewer resources than their World Circuit colleagues of Afrocubism (Wilson eventually financed the biggest part of the recording of the album himself), but 'Mali Latino' was none the less recorded at the prestigious Real World studios of Peter Gabriel, resulting in a more authentic and contemporary sounding album than that of Afrocubism.
