With the release of 'Fatteliku: Live In Athens 1987', a recording of a 1987 concert by Youssou N'Dour and Le Super Etoile De Dakar, Real World Records immortalizes a piece of world music history. The concept of "world music" (read: the popularization of non-western music genres) was still in its infancy and N'Dour was still far removed from becoming the world famous star he is today. In fact, back in 1987, he merely performed as an opening act on Peter Gabriel's 'So' tour. Gabriel had discovered N'Dour in a Paris club somewhere in the early nineteen eighties and was immediately impressed. When in 1985 he started recording for what eventually would become the 'So' album, he invited the Senegalese singer to come and join him at his studio in Bath. The joint session culminated in 'In Your Eyes', a song of which the live version is also featured on 'Fatteliku: Live In Athens 1987'. The mutual admiration the two artists cherished for each other would grow into a warm friendship and when in 2014 Peter Gabriel was inducted in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, Youssou N'Dour was proudly by his side to assist him in delivering 'In Your Eyes' once more.
