If you're a fan of obscure releases, you should definitely check out 'Unreleased Early Recordings: Shuffle & Boogie 1960', a collection of early recordings by Jamaican trombonist Rico Rodriguez, recorded at Ken Khouri's Federal Recording Studio in Jamaica. Among the seven songs in the track list, which all date back to 1960, a period when ska hadn't been invented yet and musicians like Rico Rodriguez were forced to play the hotel circuit for a largely upscale white audience, a song featuring Hortense Ellis ('I've Got A Secret') and a combination with keyboardist and band leader Herman 'Hersang' Sang (closing track 'Sinclair Special'). Impression of an era and the start of the musical career of what would become a trombone-legend.
