After the release of the acclaimed 'Italian Reggae Familia' in 2013, Tuscan reggae band Quartiere Coffee experienced some serious setbacks. In the middle of the promotional tour for the album, there was the sudden demise of guitarist Gianluca 'Real Giallu' Acquilino, and not much later vocalist KG Man quit the band. For 'Conscience', the band has taken a fresh start. Filippo 'Rootman' Fratangeli has taken over as the band's front man and the band summarizes 'Conscience' as follows: "'Conscience' is about the search for ourselves, discovering and finding our own identity amongst thousands of different faces. The whole album is a journey of rediscovery...". With Train To Roots' Rootsman (opener and title track 'Conscience') and Earth Beat Movement's Mistilla (the infectious 'Hey Girl'), two other contemporary Italian reggae bands are also represented on 'Conscience', but for the best combination in the track list, 'Illusion', Quartiere Coffee invited Jamaican veteran Utan Green. For 'We Are' the band rehashed part of the American charity single 'We Are The World', and for 'Healing Of The Nations' Quartiere Coffee used Love University Records' Piantiamola riddim, but the real topper on 'Conscience' is 'In Jamaica', which was already released as a single earlier.
