'Uhamiaji' sprouted from the collaboration of producer Sam Jones with Msafiri Zawose, son of icon of the Tanzanian Wagogo music Hukwe Zawose. 'Uhamiaji' evokes memories of Hukwe Zawose's 2002 album 'Assembly', for which he collaborated with producer Michael Brook and experimented with ambient and electronics, and the sound of this album can best be described as an almost hypnotic blend of traditional Wagogo music with western electronics and the ilimba, a large oversized double thumb piano in the lead role. Soundway Records describes 'Uhamiaji' as: "...an afro-futurist journey that takes in dub, Balearic ambient and electronic vibrations alongside Zawose's hypnotic playing and emotive plaintive vocals.", a description we'd gladly concur with. Enchanting and mesmerizing Tanzanian soundscape!
