The release of Samory I's 'Black Gold' also made us discover 'Songs From Zion' by Kristine Alicia, a Jamaican singer based in Miami since the age of thirteen. Kristine first made a name for herself in the gospel circuit ('My Story' still has a bit of a gospel feel), but with this Rory Stone Love production now presents an excellent new roots album. Alicia immediately sets the tone with the powerful 'Zion' and continues in the same vein with the remaining 10 songs in the track list. To add some recognizability to the tracks on the album, Rory Stone Love revamped a number of classic riddims: 'Valley Song' is a delicious version over the Cuss Cuss riddim, for 'My Story' Rory recycled the Heavenless riddim and behind 'Roll It', our personal favorite on 'Songs From Zion', an ingenious mix of Real Rock and Ba Ba Boom is hidden. Little gem of an album!
