For his debut effort, Jemere Morgan - son of Morgan Heritage keyboardist/vocalist Gramps - in the end opted to do a full album and not an EP as he'd previously announced. The "transition" mentioned in the title, and in the Bost & Bim produced title track of the album, is the coming of age from a boy into a man; Jemere has meanwhile turned 21, and thus should no longer be considered a teenager, but an adult. Of course, 'Neighborhood Girl', Jemere's 2013 breakthrough hit, could not be excluded from the track list, even though on 'Transition' only an, admittedly excellent, remix version featuring Agent Sasco was included. 'She's Gone' and 'Anything You Want', which were also already released as singles can be found on 'Transition'. For 'Neighborhood Girl' Jemere used the riddim of John Holt's 'Sweety Come Brush Me' (be it that in the remix version little of the original riddim remains), and for 'Anything You Want' he also used a classic, this time Dennis Brown's 'Sitting And Watching'. Apart from Agent Sasco (aka Assasin), Jemere also invited Toian to the studio for 'Bang Bang', and together with a member of another musical dynasty, Jo Mersa Marley (son of Stephen Marley), he recorded the poppy lovers tune 'I Shouldn't Have'. However, our favorite duet on 'Transition' is the militant 'Shakers Movers', for which Jemere is joined by J Boog. Jemere's father Roy aka Gramps even pops up in the track list twice (in 'Try Jah Love' and 'Celebrate Life'), but we were still somewhat surprised there's not a single trace of any of the other Morgans on 'Transition'. Those looking for the most Morgan Heritage-sounding song on 'Transition', will undoubtedly end up with 'Gold Old Roots', as far as we're concerned one of the best tracks on the album. Not everything on 'Transition' can be classified as reggae though, but even when Jemere strays from that genre he still manages to convince, and especially 'Shine With Me' could easily become an international pop hit. Even though merely being a member of a musical dynasty certainly isn't always sufficient, Jemere has clearly inherited the right Morgan-genes!
