Addys Mercedes was born in Moa, an industrial town in the east of Cuba, but after a lot of traveling (Gelsenkirchen, Dusseldorf, Tenerife) ended up settling with her family in the German town of Essen. On 'Locomotora A Cuba', her fourth album to date, recorded with her husband Cae Davis (bass guitar, percussion, backing vocals) and daughter Lia (violin), Mercedes offers a mix of pop and rock with influences from Latin American and Caribbean genres like son, rumba, cumbia (title track 'Locomotora A Cuba', in which the cumbia rhythm imitates the cadence of a train, reminding us of the timeless classic by Rodolfo Y Su Tipica 'La Collegiala') and reggae. Really irresistible is 'Rompe El Caracol' (roughly translated "come out of your shell"), a dance track over an accordion driven rhythm in which Addys calls on people to come out of their shell and with ballads like 'Atrapa Los Sueños' or 'Querer Segunda Mano' Addys proves she can also handle a slower song.
