In september 2004 I started writing for the music magazine REWIND. 3R Magazine and RifRaf musiczine soon followed. Now I'm mainly writing for the Flemish reggae portal website Reggae.be and the world music blog Tropicalidad.be. The interviews I did and still do for them, are republished here. Enjoy!

INTERVIEW LEE 'SCRATCH' PERRY REGGAE SUNDANCE 08/2005
When you get the chance to interview a living legend and walking enigma like Lee ‘Scratch' Perry, you grab it with both hands. Is he really out there or is it all an act? I'm still not sure what to make of him, but be your own judge.
Lee, blessed, can I ask you a couple of questions?
Lee 'Scratch' Perry: "Yeah sure."
When we say 'Scratch', 'The Upsetter', we say dub. What is dub for you?
Lee 'Scratch' Perry: "Dub is your heartbeat, the drumbeat, boof boof boof boof boof. Dub is in your brain cells; you only think of pum-pum. Pum-pum creates the bass line which is like the pussy. Without pussy you are not happy. When you have pussy on your mind you're really happy. The bass is created out of pum-pum. The bass named Jesus Christ came out of pum-pum. That's your brainwave. You only think about pum-pum, having sex. Your heart goes boof boof boof and when you piss it sounds like tssssch, like a lightning flash. That's dub. The bass line goes pum pum pum pum; that is the pussy. The brain is the pussy and the bass line is the pussy and the drumbeat goes boof boof boof and that's your heartbeat. That is dub."
When I ask him to tell me what His Imperial Majesty Haile Selassie means to him he starts talking about his own persona instead:
Lee 'Scratch' Perry: "Well, honestly I am not a human being. I am a fish being; I'm a Piscean and Pisceans are not human beings. Fish was created to feed human beings. Without fish humans would not survive. I am the son of Neptune. My bottom part is fish and the top part is human. My wife is a horse; she is a Sagittarius with the bow and arrow in hand, a man horse. I'm everything! I believe in stone. I have an amethyst here which, amongst other things, can produce rain. It makes lightning flash and thunder roll. It's the ever living purity of rock you understand. I hit the devil with a rock and turned his head back."
What is the story behind all of these strange looking extravagant items on your outfits?
Lee 'Scratch' Perry: "(Points at the rings on his fingers, red.) This one's name is Sirius, he represents the birds or the law of nature. The horseshoe is the symbol of the Sagittarius and represents good luck. This star represents the twelve tribes of Israel. I am the king of Israel, the lord God of Israel. I'm all in one. I am the truth and the truth can be anything. I represent God and my children were my sin. I banned them because they were following their mother's footsteps. I banned the mother and the children and drowned my sin. Now I'm pure. I am the open door!"
